Water's Edge Handcrafted, Sterling Silver pendant with Selenite

Inspired by walks on the shore, watching the waves crash , leaving textures in the sand, this handcrafted silver pendant includes the ethereal gemstone selenite. The gemstone’s name comes from Selene, the Greek goddess of the moon, but for me the shimmering optical qualities recall the foam at the waters edge. Selenite is a spiritual gemstone known for its calming energies. 
 
As with each of my handcrafted pieces, this piece began with a lump of silver clay which I textured, shaped, cut and drilled. I wanted the textures to resemble those left in the sand after the tide recedes. After drying and sanding the clay was fired, and during the firing process that the clay binder is burnt off, revealing the silver.  Once I was happy with the finish it was hallmarked at Edinburgh Assay Office and then given a patina to enhance the texture.
