Handcrafted, Silver, Pendant with Serpentine
Used for centuries in amulets and talisman, Serpentine is believed to have protective qualities and in particular has been used to protect against snakes and evil. I wanted this pendant to look like an ancient amulet as if it had been unearthed at one of the Iron Age brochs here in Skye. A relic from the past that connects with the everyday.
As with all of my handcrafted silver pieces, I began with silver clay which I coaxed, cut, textured, sanded and worked until it was ready to fire. In the kiln binder in the clay is burned away, revealing the silver. It was then sent to Edinburgh Assay Office for hallmarking. Finally I began to assemble the piece and to give it the patina which makes this necklace rather special.
Appropriately it hangs from a sterling silver snake chain (18 inch) finished with a sterling silver clasp.
Comes gift boxed along with information about the gemstone and the creative process.
