Handcrafted Silver Pendant Necklace with Labradorite
I designed this very special necklace to showcase the labradorite. When it was finished, I was very tempted to keep it for myself! The pendant is pierced to give the labradorite light and movement - making the most of those gorgeous green and gold flashes.
As with each of my handcrafted silver pieces it began with the design and a lump of silver clay which I cut, shaped, textured and generally coaxed into life. Several days worth of sanding and refining, then it was fired. During the firing process the binder is burnt off leaving the 925 sterling silver. It was buffed, tumbled, polished and then sent for hallmarking at Edinburgh Assay Office. A quick dip of liver of sulphur enhanced the textures, and then I added the labradorite with silver wire, and a string of smaller labradorite interspersed with tiny facetted prasiolite - for those flashes of minty greens. Finished with a sterling silver clasp.
Pendant size 3x3.5cm. Necklace length 18 inches.
