Handcrafted Silver Brooch
Circular brooch (3.5cm diameter) with abstract floral pattern inspired by the natural landscape of Skye.
As with all my handcrafted silver pieces, this began life as a lump of silver clay which I textured, cut, dried and sanded. The abstract floral pattern was applied using syringe clay. Then more drying, sanding and refining the design, before it was fired. During the firing process the binder in the clay is burned off leaving the sterling silver. After hallmarking at Edinburgh Assay Office, the final stage was for me to add a patina to enhance the textural qualities. Finally the sterling silver brooch pin was added to the back.
